The Abuja explosions wasn’t the only one to rock Nigeria’s troubled north as yet another explosion was reported near another church in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

The twin attacks which has residents fearing for their lives during the yuletide season is suspected to be the work of dreaded Islamic sect Boko Haram.

According to the associated press the terrorist sect have orchestrated several attacks that have claimed over 400 lives this year alone.

The AP reported he first explosion on Sunday struck St Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla, a town in Niger state close to the capital, Abuja, authorities said.

Slaku Luguard, a co-ordinator with Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, said rescue workers have recovered at least 25 bodies from the wreck at the church site and it is uncertain how many have been wounded.

His agency, Luguard said, unfortunately lack adequate rapid response equipment to help those in need. According to the AP, Luguard also reported that a growing angry mob at the site have hampered the rescue and recovery process.

“We’re trying to calm the situation,” Luguard said. “There are some angry people around trying to cause problems.”

In Jos, a second explosion struck near a Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, government spokesperson Pam Ayuba said.

Gunmen later opened fire on police guarding the area, the spokesman said, wounding one police officer. However, officials were able to forestall further destruction, finding and disarming two more locally-made explosives in a near-by building.

“The military are here on ground and have taken control over the entire place,” Ayuba assured.
