We are becoming aware that one of our problems is our value BUT we do not recognise a challenge to live by our values or when we fail to live by our value and continue with foreign values to our disadvantage, loss of dignity and honour in the international community, and even to the harm of our health, the harm of our children, and death to us or to our children.

A particular case is our attitude to life. We hold that human life is the first, fundamental, greatest, highest, most necessary, most important, and supreme value. Hausa people express their value for human life by saying sai lafia. Igbo people do so by saying ndu bu isi, ndu ka aku, and ndu ka ego; while Yoruba people say alafia loju, and alafia ni ogun oro. But there is no expression of the preservation of our lives and the lives of our children in our attitude to foods, drugs, and vaccines consistent with these sayings. It is absolutely clear that we do not ensure that our foods, drugs and vaccines are SAFE before we begin to consume them.

In this regards, let me emphasise that “nutritious” does not mean “safe” and, hence, that “nutritious food” does NOT mean “safe food”. Foods MUST be tested for safety using a mammalian animal and certified safe before they are consumed and before they are given to our children to consume as the expression of our value for our lives and the lives of our children. But this is not done. This is why there are increasing number of people who suffer diabetes, high blood pressure, cancers, and kidney, liver, heart, and immune system failures, deaths, infertility, and deformities, including autism, and some incredible disabilities.

In this regards, I must assert that researchers have shown that the increased rate of these diseases and deaths due to them are due to the foods called genetically modified foods (GM foods).

I am willing and ready to say more about genetic engineering and GM foods and to defend the assertion made here.
