Third Term Agenda:Is Obasanjo telling the truth?

The third term agenda in the political arena in Nigeria has been tagged with the name of the republic’s former Military head of State and later former President; Olusegun Obasanjo.

The issue of canvassing for a third term came to fore again after an interview was granted by the former president to our own Olugbenga Ashiru the presenter of ‘Network Africa’ where Olusegun Obasanjo denied being at the forefront of the third term agenda for his own administration.

Before now, Nigerians saw the man Olusegun Obasanjo to be the one bidding for him to stay as the President of Nigeria for one more term to make it a 12 year reign of one man in a democratic dispensation which would have gone down in the history books of Nigeria.

Deji Bademosi had guests in the studio to comment on this issue if the former President was actually telling the truth during the interview or not as he claimed that the National Assembly pushed for third term and not him.

General Obasanjo should be reminded that he was not addressing school children. Even they (children) would have tasked him on his claims. He and his likes (governors) have dubiously staged-managed events, and pretended they never knew such events were coming. The question for the General is: If he didn’t want a third term, why didn’t he call the campaigners to order? Obasanjo’s 3rd term project was simply fashioned in the mould of Gen. Abacha’s self-succession moves. Till the man died, he had neither for once confirmed nor denied his interest in succeeding himself. But we all knew what was cooking then. So, like Abacha, like Obj – both dictators and murderers of democracy! Back to General (sir) Obasanjo, what about the billions of naira that changed hands while the 3rd term agenda was being pursued? As a leader who claimed to be fighting corruption (I never for once believed him though), why didn’t he institute an inquiry into the source of the money and prosecute both the givers and the takers?

He gave his consent. Y did he mobilize d machinery of d state (including d EFCC) against d opponents of his 3rd term bid but gave those even with d most heinous crime a soft-landing 4 supporting his dare-devil agenda? OBJ is double-faced.
