The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akin Adeshina has announced plans to increase the production of key staple foods to 20million metric tonnes annually.

The targeted staple food includes include rice, cassava and sorghum.

According to the Minister, the planned increase of the staple food is expected to provide about N300 billion additional incomes for Nigerian farmers and also create jobs for three point five million youths in the country.

The minister who announced the new initiative at a ministerial briefing in Abuja also said that over N6 billion is to be injected into the economy for the substitution of wheat bread with cassava bread.

The Minister of Water resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe and her counterpart from the Ministry of Environment, Mrs Hadiza Mailafiya reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to provide portable water for Nigerians and sustaining a cleaner and friendly environment .
