The Senate on Tuesday ordered the Federal Government to ground all planes belonging to Dana Airline until investigations into last Sunday’s crash which killed 153 passengers and crew and unknown number of people on ground is completed.

The Senate also ordered the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Harold Demuren, to step aside until the conclusion of investigation into the accident.

Besides, the senators want aviation authorities in the country to conduct an audit of the airlines in the country with a view to determining their airworthiness.

The Senate made these resolutions following a motion by the Chairman of its Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzondinma.

The lower House had on Monday vowed to hold a legislative inquiry into the crash separate from government’s planned investigations.

The Chairman House of Representatives’ Committee on aviation, Nkiruka Onyejeocha had said her committee would investigate the cause of the Dana plane crash and ensure that anyone culpable is held accountable.

Also, the Chairman, House committee on media, Zakari Mohammed, said an ad hoc committee will be named to investigate the cause of accidents.

All 153 passengers and crew members aboard the plane died while an unexpected number, were killed in the buildings and neighborhood the plane crashed into.
