Officials of the Nigeria Customs Service have seized contraband goods worth N179 million in Edo state. Five persons have been arrested in Benin and Warri in connection with seizures.  

The seized items include fake drugs, used tyres and over five thousand cartons of frozen foods.

The Comptroller in charge of Zone C, Mr Mohammed Ahmed advised Nigerians to stop activities that are harmful to the economy but invest their resources in ventures that would assist in the nations development.

The seizure according to Mr Ahmed is part of the agency’s renewed drive to rid the nation of criminal minded people who specialize in importing banned goods into the country.

Deputy Comptroller -General of Customs in charge of enforcement and investigation, Mr Yinusa Saka, warned Nigerians not to take advantage of absence of check points on major highways to carry out their criminal activities

The Nigeria Customs Service has vowed to prosecute individuals who are bent on undermining its statutory mandate.
