The Vice president, Namadi Sambo has given the assurance that the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state will be free and fair and devoid of violence.

The Vice President made this known on Saturday at the gubernatorial rally of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, where he assured the party members that, in keeping with the federal government’s transformation agenda, there will be no violence during the election.

Mr Sambo, who is the Chairman of the PDP’s committee on Edo Gubernatorial election, urged the youths present to resist every temptation to perpetrate violence.

In a short speech that lasted about two minutes, the Vice-president assured the people of a free and fair election, adding that he was convinced of PDP’s presence in the state, adding that the will reclaim leadership of the state come July 14 2012, when the election will hold.

On hand to receive the Vice President at the Benin International Airport was the Edo state Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Chief Tony Anenih, and other PDP stalwarts.

The Vice President proceeded to the Ogbemudia stadium where a crowd of PDP supporters and leaders received him. Amongst them, were Chief Samuel Ogbemudia and Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

PDP’s chairman in the state, Chief Dan Orbih in his address, affirmed that the party was ready to take over governance of the state.

The national chairman of PDP, Bamanga Tukur who presented the PDP’s candidate to the people, assured him of the support of the national secretariat of the party.

Chief Tony Anenih and the Chief of Staff to the President, Mike Ogiadhomen, both noted that the turnout at the rally was proof of PDP’s presence in the state and they also gave the assurance that the election will be violence free.
