Nigerian Premier League new entrants El-Kanemi Football Club of Maiduguri has qualified for the round of 32 of the Nigerian Football Federation Cup by knocking out hard fighting Rising Stars of Akure, 5-4 on penalty shootout.

The match which was played at the Area 3 FIFA Goal Project pitch in Abuja saw the El-Kanemi team taking the lead in the first half but the Rising Stars levelled scores before the end of the first half.

The ding dong affair continued in the second half with El-Kanemi shooting into the lead with a second goal which was neutralised by Rising Stars equaliser until the match was settled from the penalty spot.

Elkanemi scored all their five penalties and Rising Stars scored four to end the match at seven goals in favour of El-Kanemi as against Rising Stars six goals including goals scored in regulation time.

Lobi Stars Football of Makurdi who also traded tackles with Flash Flamingos FC of Gombe in Abuja knocked off their opponents by four goals to one to qualify for the round of 32 of the federation cup.

With an early lead in the first minute of the game, Lobi dominated the game from the blast of the whistle until the Gombe boys scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game.

Chairman of El-Kanemi, Mohammed Mala Zanna and his counterpart from Lobi Stars Dominic Iorfa expressed satisfaction with the outcome while the Coach of Flash Flamingos commended his opponent for a good game.
