Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended two suspects believed to have launched an attack on the country home of Vice President Namadi Sambo in Zaria, Kaduna state, on Monday.

The two suspects were said to have been arrested in different hospitals while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the gun duel with police officers during the attack.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer for the state’s Police Command, Balteh Abdulrazaq, said that “one of the suspects who sustained injuries from gunshot during a gun fight with the police officers guarding the house was identified on a hospital bed by one of the injured policemen and he was arrested immediately.”

“Also one of the policemen was able to identify one of the four robbery suspects we arrested this morning (Tuesday) in Zaria as one of the suspects in the house attack”, he said adding that “one of the robbery suspects was killed in a crossfire by our men.”

Gunmen on motorbikes on Monday attacked the country house of Vice President in Zaria, shooting at the two mobile policemen guarding the house at Tundun-Wada.

While the policemen sustained injuries, a cobbler said to be mending one of the police officer’s shoes, was hit and he died on the spot.

The house was under renovation and had not been lived in by the VP’s family since the 2011 general elections when the house was initially attacked.

Soldiers have now been deployed to the area.
