Abia state-born Ukeje Okechukwu Edwards, also known as Mr. Raw-formally known as ‘Dat Nigga Raw’-is one of  Nigeria’s unique hip-hop artiste. He raps and sings in his local dialect of Igbo language.

Mr. Raw was the Guest Artiste of the week, on our weekend breakfast show; Sunrise Saturday, and spoke his mind on his career and how it all started.

Formerly known as ‘Dat Nigerian Guy Anakpo Raw (NiG.G.A), Mr Raw, confessed how he contested in  musical competitions without  the belief that he will pursue a career in the now lucrative Nigerian music industry.

He claimed he was only enjoying himself in his self styled “Igbo-pidgin English hip hop” when he started, but was encouraged by family and friends to further his interest and “it has made me a star today”as he confessed.

Refused to be phased by his stardom, Mr. Raw downplayed the title, “Music Don from the East” but rather preferred to be addressed as an artiste from the east, acknowledging other rappers/singers from the Igbo dominated South-Eastern region of Nigerian.

He went down memory lane to explain reasons behind the name “Dat Nigga Raw” and the decision to change the name.
