50 passengers escape death as plane fails to land in Benin

Over fifty passengers aboard a plane from Lagos to Benin City escaped death on Saturday when the aircraft failed to land after hovering in the Benin airspace for about 15 minutes .

People at the airport, including those who had come to pick their loved ones were told to vacate the area, with fears that the airline might crash-land.

The flight flew back to Lagos after it failed to land at the airport. One of the passengers on board, who craved anonymity, disclosed that some “passengers fainted due to fear.”

There was no official explanation on the development.

When contacted, Benin Airport Manager, Mr Segun Ayodele said he was unaware of the incident.

The passenger continued: “We thought it was going to be another crash. We were hovering round the Benin airspace but we could not land. Of course people were shouting the name of Jesus until we were taken back to Lagos”.

Meanwhile, the Benin Airport Manager, Mr Segun Ayodele, said he was unaware of the incident.

This report has actually made me loose respect for Channels. I was fortunate to be at the Benin Airport at this time waiting for a sister aboard the same Arik flight and i can say here that this story is a sharp contradiction from what actually happened at the airport. A fact that the aircraft made hovered for some minutes trying to locate the best position effect landing because of bad weather, but the situation never caused any panic in the airport and no such announcement was made by the airport authorities and i wonder where you guys got this report from. Much as am one of the greatest fan of your station, this very report is a huge disappointment and one done in bad faith

@ @felixemore:disqus , were you inside the aircraft? Those inside were not given any information, and many were shouting and praying

You might be right considering no passenger names were given.

all these anonymous reports make nigerian journalist look incompetent, not a single passenger was named, out of 55 people, you couldnt even get one or two passengers, the manager even say he is not aware of the incident

It just shows that reporters are not painstaking enough to verify their story befor going to the press. The result is that the public is fed with half truth or outright lies.

What kind of airport manager is that? Either he is restricted from talking about the incident or they have faulty intelligence.
