N5000 note: NBA calls for the dismissal of CBN governor

The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has called for the immediate sack of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi over the planned introduction of the N5,000 note.

NBA’s president, Mr Okey Wali at a meeting with some legal luminaries in Abuja on Thursday, said the introduction of the N5,000 note should not be imposed on Nigerians.

According to Mr Wali, for every criticism of the CBN’s policy, what Nigerians get are insults and name-calling, he therefore demanded that if Mr Sansui can not listen to the wishes and demands of Nigeria, the CBN boss should be fired.

He also threatened that the lawyers association will go to court if the federal government goes ahead with the plan.

The lawyers’ meeting was called to deliberate on how to develop the bar association while appraising its performance with a view to identify lapses and suggest ways of reforming the legal profession.

The leadership of the NBA kicked against the plan  to introduce N5,000 note and other national issues which it identified as been clogs in the wheel of the nations development.

While some of the legal practitioners argued that the introduction of the currency will increase inflation in the country, others called on the government not to embark on policies that will harm the nation’s economy.

The summit for the senior lawyers which is the first to be organized by the NBA is aimed at bringing members of bar together to brainstorm on ways of addressing issues of professional ethics, strategic planning and development of the legal profession.

Goodluck is not man enough to sack Sanusi.
For crying out loud the man is from Kano while our President is from Otueke.Sanusi should print #1billion note so that states governors who earn #4billion monthly can go to Abuja and receive 4 notes.

    • nawao

Yes  you are right mr. Oladipo but I am really not angry against this our so called government because we don’t have any per say. What we have is just circus where people like the Director general of SEC, Arunma Oteh is still allowed to retain her post instead of staying behind the bars, where Andy Ubah and and Ribadu  are today
roaming the streets freely when they should be serving sentences in prison. However,
I am angry against our students and their unions. In many countries that became
successful economically, the students have always been the ones that lead the
masses to big protests deemed at correcting the ills of the corrupt leaders. In
my country, the students are engaged in the primitive act of killing themselves
in what they call CULTISM.  What a shame.
Nothing will ever change in this country. As you said, let them go ahead and
print a billion naira single note, of course no body will question them.

Nawao, i strongly agreed with you on the way the nigeria student have become, so weak in out come to protest against all the corruptiong and the problems facing nigeria cause by the government..am sorry to say ,i love nigeria withn all my heart but it really hurt and i feel so much pain the way things are going in nigeria, else where u will never see the student quiet without doing nothing, why? cause most of the so call nigeria union students have been use by the corrupt government ,they don’t have say anymore, they work in helping to kill, carry out most crimes out for the people in government, they don’t think at all, as if they are not in that school to learn and defend their constitutional right ,if all the nigeria students and the unions come together things will surely change at least resolution can start from there, change make start too, most of the unions students don’t even mind staying at home and doing there crime without disturbance cause they are paying them ,so they don’t care ,they have been all bribe ,don’t you knoiw they share money from Abuja, so they don’t wanna bite the finger that fed them..
Corruption has been a major player in nigeria government ,everyone of them that everly come on board only have one thing in mind, just to steal money, nobody is going to do anything about it, this mentality have to stop ,we all have to stand up once and for good to face it, look at china now ,there are before the biggest growing economics in the world, 1960 – 1990 ,where is china to nigeria, they don’t have half of our resources but what happened now, china sentence there own former president to death for corruption ,kill many top government official for corruptions, how many top government has been sentence to life or even straight 10 years in jail, they give themselves months ,why won’t others want to steal ,but let start killing them or life in prison or giving them 20 -50 years ,so they won’t come out to enjoy the money ,then they will see is not worth steal money then , sorry for the killing but the pain of how things work in nigeria is so painful and annoying ..God bless nigeria

They will add 0 to make it #40b because 4 notes is for only 4 girls so they still need plenty notes.

I don’t buy the idea of sacking sanusi just because he made a policy that is not accepted by most nigerians. What should be done is to stop him from implementing such policies. Every human being is not perfect, we are bound to make errors at times. so let us see sanusi’s case as an error and move ahead. Personally, I don’t support the introduction of 5000 naira note because its a waste of time and available resources, sanusi should focus on the implementation of cashless nigeria which i think is a good policy that will add to is credibility.

    • Olulana

No. This is not just an error. Its a revelation of the way he(Sanusi) thinks. Remember his role and blatant pronouncements during the subsidy removal issue. His prescribed measures are meant for certain ‘cabal’ and not the people. Why should such a person remain as Gov of the peoples’ CBN? Except the bank is his or GEJ’s

This is the most stupid comment from a sitting NBA president. There is no legitimate argument against the introduction of 5000 Naira note yet here is making these very wild comments

Lamido and Ngozi are both agents of the World Bank being sent to destroy Nigerias Economy and probably being paid to do it, for goodness sake what is Madam Finace Coordinating Minister doing in Nigeria leaving her World Bank Job.

    • Olulana

One can even excuse Ngozi who had been in Western practice all along. Just settling to really understand grassroot Nigeria and Nigerians and I think she’s settling fast. What of Lamido that rose through local bank(First Bk), should he not have understood more if not for his own private agenda.

  • Rofiattemmy olarewaju

i dint buy the idea of the introduction of the new  N5000 NARA note, i think they should do some thing better in the country, instead of  dis Nara note ,please Mr sanusi the nation didn’t agree with that

    1. Crude Oil production/day – 2.5M barrels
     2. Current Price = $113/barrel
     3. Daily Sales = 2.5M x 113 = $282.5million
     4. Monthly Sales = 282.5M x 30days = $8.475billion
     5. Yearly Sales = $8.475billion x 12 = $101.7billion
     6. Naira Equivalent = 101.7billion x #160 = 16.272trillion naira per year.
     7. Nigeria’s budget for 2012 = 4.5trillion naira.
Now d question is: Where is d surplus going?!

Its unfortunate that even the CBN Governor who claim to be the number ONE nigeria economist who proposed to implement the system of cashless economy does not know real definition of inflation in civilized country’s economy.I think nigerians should advice the NBA a legal action against him and as such fire him. From all indication his types are the people who do not want our economy to grow because of their selfish interests.HENRY(DOHA,QATAR)
