TMG expresses concern over voters’ apathy in Nigeria

Despite the preceived improvement in electoral processes in recent times, the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has expressed concern over the continuing rise in voter apathy in elections in Nigeria.

The chairman of the group, Mr Ibrahim Zikirullahi expressed the concern in parley with journalists in Abuja, where he noted that out of over 2 million eligible voters in Ondo state, only about 1.6 million persons were registered to vote, out of which just about 600,000 were accredited on the day of the election.

He warned that voter education is highly necessary in the country to ensure that the current indifference to elections does not impact negatively on the democracy.
