President Goodluck Jonathan stated that the transmission deal with Manitoba Power Hydro Electricity has not been revoked.
In his last media chat for the year with a cross section of editors, the President pointed out that the contract was not cancelled but is being regularized as due process was not fully followed in the award.
“Manitoba contract has not been revoked” the President declared.
The president noted that some loopholes were identified in the contract which transferred the transmission arm of the PHCN to the Canadian company, so such issues were being rectified.
President Jonathan declared that he has “given all relevant government agencies-involved in the transaction-till Tuesday, for the problem to be sorted out, so that if it requires my final authorization, I will get that done before close of work on Tuesday.”
“We saw some loopholes, the government observed that the company “did not follow the law strictly when it got the contract.”
This statement by the President is contrary to the claim by the President’s aide on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, who had last week confirmed to Channels TV in an interview that President Goodluck Jonathan has annulled the deal because “due process was not followed in the award of the contract…..and there were issues about the violation of due process” he said.
Canada’s state-owned Manitoba Hydro Electricity was one of the transmission companies hired by the former Minister of Power, Professor Bart Nnaji, to manage the nation’s power transmission network.
