The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African states has expressed its support for the African-led intervention in Mali and Guinea Bissau.

Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who addressed journalists after a meeting with the chairman of the ECOWAS and President of Cote d’Ivoire, Mr Alassane Quattara in Abidjan expressed the support of the parliament on efforts at resolving the crisis in Mali and Guinea Bissau.

Senator Ekweremadu revealed that the quest for the enhancement of the powers of the ECOWAS parliament also received a boost as the ECOWAS chairman gave assurance that the powers of the parliament as an institution needs to be enhanced.
