The Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam

The Benue State Police Command has commenced the prosecution of one Wer Yima, a native of Tse Yima Agba, Mbangul, Vandeikya local government area for allegedly attempting to kill the governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam.

The suspect is facing prosecution at a Chief Magistrate Court in Makurdi.

In suit no. MCM/101/12, it was documented that Mr Yima had on the 30th October 2012 dressed in a military camouflage and armed with a locally made pistol, forced his way in the direction of the governor at the palace of the Ter Kunav in Vandeikya where the governor had gone to pay homage before he was arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SAR led by one Sgt. Tor Geri.

The prosecution officer Inspector Terzungwe Kajo said by that act Mr Yima committed criminal trespass, conspiracy, wearing dress used by public servants and unlawful possession of firearms, and an attempt to commit culpable homicide.

He averred that investigation was still in progress and applied for a date to enable him conclude investigation.

The trial magistrate, Theresa Wergba did not take any plea for want of jurisdiction and adjourned the case to December 7, 2012 for further hearing.
