A bomb explosion has occurred at the Kantin Kwari textile market in Kano state, North West Nigeria injuring three people.

A normal day at the market

The explosion is reported to have occurred along the road around Kofar Mata area of the market when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) has reportedly ordered the closure of the market due to another possible bomb threat.

Eyewitnesses confirmed to Channels Television that the IED was kept inside a carton, where it exploded at about 8:45AM, as traders and their customers arrived the market for the day’s business.

“The bomb exploded, but there are no casualties because people are yet to come out as at the time it exploded. However, its impact has destroyed some part of Eid prayer ground’s fence”, the witness said.

Neither the JTF nor the Police spokespersons were available for details on the explosion.

Kantin Kwari textile market is the largest market in the entire northern Nigeria with thousands of traders from the West-African sub-region, thronging the market every day.
