Ogun State Government has distributed food items received from the Federal Government to flood victims across 20 Local Governments of the State.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun who stated this in Abeokuta while speaking on the activities of her ministry, disclosed that late in 2012 the State taken delivery of 660 metric tons of maize, 60 metric tons of cassava flakes and 180 metric tons of sorghum as its portion of relief food items released by the Federal Government to states across the federation.

She added that the items were released to mitigate effects of the flood experienced across the country last year and help combat the effects of malnutrition that may arise, especially in women and children.

The commissioner explained that the distribution of the items was based on the projected 2012 population census of women in the State, pointing out that the items could be assessed through “women in agriculture”.

It will be recalled that the state government distributed relief materials last week in a similar gesture  to victims of last year’s flood disaster in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu Ode and Yewa South Local Government Areas of the State.

The items include 300 bags of rice, 700 pieces of mattresses, 70,000 pieces of insecticide treated nets and 1,000 pieces of blankets.
