The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has urged all the citizens of the state to ensure the prompt payment of their taxes in order to increase the internally generated revenue drive of the state as well as sustain infrastructural development.
Briefing journalists after an EXCO meeting at the Government House in Owerri, Okorocha noted that Imo state is one of the states lagging behind in terms of its internally generated revenue and due to this, the government has instituted a committee headed by the Commissioner for Finance, Chime Okafor to ensure that all citizens pay their taxes as at when due.
He stated that it is an offence punishable under law for any citizen who does not pay tax adding that any person found collecting illegal tax from any citizen will be punished.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Tax Revenue Committee, Mr. Choke Okafor added that the state government has put all necessary measures in place to ensure that the internal generated revenue of the state is increased to N2 billion monthly compared to below N500 million which was generated before now.
