The Federal Government has warned vice-chancellors of the three new federal universities against frivolous appointments of members of staff and abuse of the federal character principles.

The Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai who gave the warning at a meeting in Abuja noted that all appointments must follow due process to ensure integrity and avert a breakdown in governance structure.

Professor Rufai further announced that the other nine newly established universities have fully kicked off academic activities while the president has given approval for the release of funds for speedy development of the universities.

Meanwhile, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Julius Okogie observed that management of funds which remains a major constraint in the sector, has given rise to lack of integrity and indiscipline in tertiary institutions across the country.
