Iran Denies Training Suspected Nigerian Terrorists

The Islamic Republic of Iran has denied allegations that it had trained militants arrested in Nigeria on charges of planning attacks on U.S. and Israeli targets in Nigeria.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said such allegations were “made up as the result of the ill will of enemies of the two countries’ good relations”, Iranian state television reported on Friday.

“Iran and Nigeria have friendly and close relations and despite the vast efforts of the two countries enemies, in recent years relations and cooperation have always improved” he said.

The State Secret Service (SSS) on Thursday confirmed the arrest of Abdullahi Mustapha Berende and two other Nigerians in December after Berende, allegedly made several suspicious trips to Iran, where he interacted with Iranians in a “high-profile terrorist network”.

According to the SSS, Berende and his Iranian handlers were involved in “grievous crimes” against Nigeria’s national security.

Berende, who will now be charged in court, admitted to reporters at the SSS headquarters that he had carried out surveillance for the Iranians.

In 2004, Israeli sources said an Iranian diplomat was arrested on suspicion of spying on the Israeli Embassy in the Federal Capital Territory. Tehran denied any arrest.

In 2010, authorities at a Lagos Port found a hidden shipment of rockets, rifle rounds and other weapons from Iran, supposedly bound for Gambia.

A Nigerian and an Iranian face criminal charges over the shipment.

It is either that the Nigeria government or Iran government is telling lies. The SSS has had these spies for quite a while, interrogation them, allowed other foreign agencies we share information with to talk these accused Nigerians and must have had collaborated evidence before bringing them to the public. Unless, our security agencies operate independent of the Nigeria government, if that is the case, the SSS should should respond to the Iranian government as they have debunked the SSS assertions  public  Or someone some where is making a fool out of Nigeria on a serious national matter.

I think we must realize that the state of Iran may not have been involved with this ploy, but certainly elements of the religious establishment in Iran certainly are. Iranian elements have been implicated in these types of activities all across the middle east and asia. And we’re now seeing a shift towards Africa in order to destabilize the continent. African should not allow themselves to be used by foreign elements to once again derail the progress being made throughout. Africa still remains the richest continent in the world, and seeing the continent prosper does not bode well for those elements who wish to use religion to rule the world.

Africa is already Destabilized, the only reason we still holding up is becos of abundant natural resources.. if that were not present then we doomed.

It is obvious that Iran is the sponsor of terrorism world wide, A couple of months ago, containers of military type of weapons shipped from Iran were intercepted at Nigerian sea ports. If Nigeria does not know that Iranian Govt. is the real Godfather of the Northern Politicians who have formed this so called Boko Haram, then i would be damned if Nigeria really has any Intellingent Unit in our security system.

were they expecting iran to say yes they are sponsoring them?Iran has always denied all accusation even when it is obvious they are guilty, starting from nuclear acquisition to sponsoring terror worldwide. But the question i would rather ask, what does Nigerian govt want from Iran that we cannot cut any relationship with Iran off before it destabilizes Nigeria?
