Director of Public Affairs of the National Communication Commission (NCC), Tony Ojobo today explained the reason fines were handed to telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria.

Ojobo said “We observed some breaches during the period of the ban (on promotions) and of course you would have seen that some networks were fined accordingly depending on the number of breaches established for each service provider”

He further said “they were fined because they breached the ban and they are expected to pay that fine”.

Ojobo, who was speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, said the commission took into cognizance areas that were stricken by flood and other natural disasters in determining the sanctions on  service providers who were found wanting in the provision of standard network service.

He also said the commission noticed a reasonable change in the quality of service after the ban. He adds that power is also a major challenge in the provision quality telecommunications services.

The Director however said the telecommunication companies can run their promotions only when the quality of service is improved to the highest level.
