Ahead of the local government election in Kwara state, political parties in the state have expressed their readiness to partake in the election with assurance to come out victorious at the outing.

While the ruling party of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) boasts of its determination to sweep the polls, the opposition party calls on the state electoral agency to provide a level playing ground for rule of law and credible election to take place.

The chairman of the newly inaugurated Kwara state Independent Electoral Commission; Dr Uthman Ajidagba, while addressing journalists noted that in accordance with the constitutional provision, the electioneering activities for the local government election in the state has commenced in earnest.

Although he could not provide a definite response on when the election will take place, the INEC official assured of the commission’s readiness to be fair and just to all parties at the polls when conducted.

Reacting to the announcement, the state branch of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) convened an emergency stakeholders meeting to deliberate on the issue and challenged the commission to be transparent.

The party promised its readiness to partake in the grassroots election where they promised to offer better alternative government.

But the state secretary of the PDP, Yemi Afolayan, stated that being the responsive and responsible government that has been meeting the yearnings of the people, the party will come out victorious despite claims of the opposition whom he claimed are non-existent in the state.
