Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have said that they are not aware that they need permission from ministry of water resources to dig boreholes in their homes for water.

The Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe had told a news conference during the week that anyone who wishes to dig a borehole needs an approval from her ministry.

She said the continuous drilling of borehole for water may affect underground water supply in the future.

Many residents however said they are unaware of this policy they urge the Minister to enlighten the public on the danger of continuous drilling of the ground for water and immediately resolve the shortage of portable water in the country.

In this special report, Channels Television correspondent Gloria Ume-ezeoke takes a look at the daily struggle for clean water in some communities in the nation’s capital.
