Governor Theodore Orji of Abia state has expressed delight at the progress made by the Abia Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia, which was recently equipped with six dialysis machines worth N 180 million.

The dialysis centre, he said, was built by the state government to take care of the health needs of Nigerian citizens living in the state especially patient with kidney problems.

Governor Orji who was on  an inspection tour of the centre to ascertain the level of work expressed delight at what was on ground as well as on quality of the machines delivered.

According to him, this is one of the legacy projects embarked by the administration to minimize incessant visits to health clinic overseas for dialysis for patients with renal failure.

The Managing Director, Abia Diagnostic Centre, Professor Augustus Mbanaso, took the governor around the centre.

The centre has three separate dialysis rooms with two machines each with a television set, some bed space. This is designed for patients’ relaxation while they undergo renal therapy.

During the tour, it was disclosed that the dialysis machines cost about N180 million.

Orji lauded the use of local hands as the doctors, nurses and technicians who are indigenes of the state would take over as soon foreign technicians are done with the trainings.

The Abia State dialysis centre is expected to be commissioned as soon as the training is over.
