The Chairman of Bubayero FC, Ahmed Gara Gombe has distanced himself from his club’s scandalous 69-0 loss to Police Machine in promotion play-offs into the Nigeria Nationwide League held in Bauchi.
In a telephone interview with Channels Television, Mr Gombe said he has directed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to constitute a high-power probe panel to investigate the matter and fish out the perpetrators of what he described as ‘devilish act’ for possible prosecution.
Bubeyero FC lost 69-0 to Police Machine while Plateau United Feeders team defeated Akurba FC 79-0 in the promotional playoffs games. All the teams were involved in promotion play-offs in which the winners would qualify to play in Nigeria Nationwide League Division 3.
He said, “First, I would like to say that it is unfortunate and unacceptable to me, because it is embarrassing not only to me as the chairman of the club but to Nigeria football and the entire football family all over the world. What is more embarrassing was the fact that the score line has never happened anywhere in the world that a team can score by that wide margin. It pains me as chairman and financier of the club.”
