An aviation lawyer, Tunde Irukari has explained that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has developed the Consumer Protection Regulations  to address consumers’ issues in air transportation in order to protect both the airline and consumer.

Speaking on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr. Irukari said that the Civil Aviation Authority intends to begin an aggressive enforcement of the regulation by letting people know their rights so it can be enforced.

Noting that consumers rights vary, the lawyer stated issues such as delays, cancellations, denied boarding, airport and aircraft access amongst others adding that the regulation is set up to look into the various problems passengers go through.

Mr Irukari also sighted example of passengers who are badly behaved or passengers who violate laws, as he warned that “the regulator stands to protect both the passengers and the airline.”

According to him, the regulation which is already in operation, also dictates what airline operators need to do when flight delays are up to 2hours and above.

He said airlines are now mandated to make announcement after a 15minute delay and make another announcement after an hour delay stating how long the delay would take and reasons for the delay.
