There are indications that the Senate may delete the contentious section of the constitution which many Nigerians felt legalizes under age marriage.

The Senate President, David Mark gave the hint while meeting with various women’s groups at the National Assembly.

Mr Mark explained that the Upper Chamber never approved under-age marriage in the country and said there is a possibility of having a revote if the matter is brought up again in the Senate.

A member of the coalition of the women’s group and former Minister, Oby Ezekwesili said the controversy is a wakeup call for more Nigerians to be fully involved in the ongoing amendment of the 1999 constitution.
