The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade has granted unconditional freedom to 51 inmates who were awaiting trials.

Setting the inmates free during a visit to the prisons in the areas, Justice Olopade explained that the exercise was to ensure proper welfare of the inmates and decongest the prisons by setting free those whose case files had not been filed by the police after spending some years in the Prison.

She said some that were arrested on minor allegations and others that the Department of Public Prosecution found no case against were released.

She noted that the gesture would bring succour to the released inmates and advised them to live as good citizens of the society.

Responding the Controller of Prisons, Ogun State Command, Dr. Adams Babatunde Lawal expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge for her concern towards the plights of the inmates as those freed would bring about decongestion of the prison.

The breakdown of inmates set free included four at Ilaro Prison, 13 at Oba Prison, while 25 were freed at Abeokuta prison; eight were from Ijebu –Ode as well as one at Sagamu Prison.
