A middle aged woman, Ayobami Famiyesin has been dragged before an Akure Magistrate Court for impersonating as the Head of Ondo State Office of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Also dragged before the Court with Mrs Famiyesin was her husband and accomplice, Frederick Famiyesin, who conspired with her to commit felony by obtaining millions of Naira from unsuspecting members of the public in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

The duo were said to have allegedly offered fake appointments to their victims in NAFDAC; an offence punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The couple who are between ages 42 and 52 were accused of taking N200, 000 and over N1 million from one Ogungbemi Damilola and Melehan Temidayo respectively, with the promise that Mrs Famiyesin will secure appointments for them at NAFDAC.

When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, Police Prosecutor, Isah Atanegbe asked the court to issue a bench warrant against the couple because they failed to appear in court to answer the charges preferred against them.

However, Counsel to the accused, O J Ikudaisi pleaded that the couple recently had a fatal accident and were presently receiving treatment in a hospital in Owo.

Although the Police Prosecutor kicked against the application on the ground that there was no medical report to back the claim, the Magistrate, Akin Akintoye however adjourned the case till August 21.
