Nigeria’s hope of breaking the gold medal jinx at the IAAF world championship was dashed today after the athlete whom the country’s hope rested upon, Blessing Okagbare failed in her bid to win in the 100metres in Moscow.

Jamaica’s shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce left other athletes trailing as she took the race in 10.71 seconds, with Murrielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast coming second with a time of 10.93 seconds, while Carmelita Jeter of the United States came third.

Okagbare finished in a disappointing sixth position after a very slow start and ended the race in a time of 11.04 seconds.
