The National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has urged members to sheath their swords and give peace a chance, for the party to maintain its dominance in the polity. He said this as the party’s Special National Convention kicked off in Abuja today, the 31st of August.

While addressing the gathering at the Eagles Square, Alhaji Tukur said despite the security challenges confronting the country, the party is still focused on delivering its promises. While warning the party members against internal strife, the PDP Chairman threatened that the party will deal with anybody found working against its interest. He insisted that the PDP remains the party to beat in the country, adding that this will be demonstrated in 2015.

An Abuja High Court had earlier stopped the planned special convention of the PDP, following a suit filed by some aggrieved members.

The restraining order asked the PDP to allow sanity to reign and refrain from proceeding with the conduct or convocation of any form of convention, whether special or ordinary.

The case was later withdrawn from the court, paving the way for today’s special convention aimed at electing officers of the National Working Committee, except the office of the National Secretary which is being contested in court.
