Military authorities in Maiduguri the Borno state capital today confirmed that 37 members of  Boko Haram were killed during amilitary raid of the insurgents camp located in Alagoro village of Borno state north-east Nigeria.

The Spokesman of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Borno state, Captain Aliyu Danja confirmed the incident in an e-mail statement sent to journalists in Maiduguri the Borno state capital.

The statement said “Based on available intelligence report, troops of the 7 Division of Nigerian Army launched an attack on Boko Haram camp located in Alagarno. The operation which commenced on Monday, involved a coordinated ground and air assault by troops of 7 Division in conjunction with 79 Composite Group Nigerian Air Force Maiduguri destroyed the terrorists’ camp.

“Apart from the 37 suspected terrorists killed in the raid, several others fled with gunshot wounds as arms and ammunitions were also recovered during the raid while three Hilux Vehicles and several Motor cycles belonging to the terrorists were destroyed”

The statement also confirmed that in the early hours of yesterday the insurgents numbering fifty armed with “AK 47 rifles and Rocket Propelled Guns” blocked the Gambor/Ngala – Dikwa road at Logomari village killing four civilians and injuring two others before fleeing the scene on arrival of troops of the 7 Division.

The terrorists, according to the statement also attacked members of the Youth Vigilante Group who were returning from a funeral with the killing of three of the vigilante youth before setting their vehicle ablaze

The statement said “The vigilante youth who escaped however reinforced, pursued the terrorists and destroyed their hideout, killing several terrorists while others escaped.

“Troops of the 7 Division are however currently conducting aggressive patrols of the area to trace and destroy Boko Haram elements within its area of operations.” The statement concludes.
