President Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians that the tempo of the fight against the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, will change with the appointment of new Service Chiefs.

He gave the assurance while paying homage to the Lamido Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Mustapha, at his palace in Yola Town, Adamawa State. Stressing that the excesses of the violent group will be curtailed, he condoled the people of the state who lost loved ones due to the insurgency.

About 72 persons lost their lives in an attack carried out in the state and neighbouring Borno State on Sunday.

The President congratulated them for producing the current Chief of Defence Staff for the country, believing that with him and the other service chiefs, the security equation will change.

While expressing condolences to  members of the Emirate Council and  the people of Adamawa State, the President said “God’s willing Nigeria will overcome the challenges.”

Responding to the request made by the Lamido of Adamawa, he promised that his administration would continue to work with the state government to better the lives of the people in the state.

He also stressed that the State of Emergency declared in the state was not intended to punish anybody, pointing out that the issue of relaxing curfew in the state is under the control of the State Governor.

The Lamido of Adamawa had earlier told the President that the curfew being observed in the state is adversely affecting the commercial life in the state.
