SenateThe Senate deputy majority whip, Senator Hosea Agboola says insufficient funds were responsible for the shoddy immigration recruitment exercise which led to the death of sixteen people.

At a Senate investigative hearing, members of the committee on interior learnt that despite raising N710 million from job applicants, the recruitment consultant Drextel Technologies Limited released only N45 million for the exercise.

From the ministry of immigration and the Comptroller-General of immigration, it appears the recruitment exercise was already fraught with problems before it even began.

Both of them distanced themselves from the recruitment exercise.

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro refuted the statements made by the Comptroller-General of immigration.

A total of 710 thousand people applied online nationwide out of which about five hundred and twenty two thousand people were shortlisted.

Committee members were disturbed that the ministry decided to invite everyone who applied to come for the aptitude test without specifying those who were shortlisted.

Committee members also demanded to know why the consultant only released 45 million out of the 710 million naira got from the job applicants for the exercise.

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro once again apologized to the families of those killed and said he takes full responsibility for what happened as the bulk stops at his table.

Nigerians have been demanding to know those responsible for the exercise that caused tears and agony for the families of those killed.
