Bayelsa State came to a standstill as the Nigerian President; Goodluck Jonathan gave out the hand of his daughter, Faith Sakwe in marriage to her sweetheart, Godswill Osim.
The celebration began at the international airport in Rivers State. A group of women were already waiting to receive the President, from where he headed straight to his home town, Otueke in Bayelsa State for the traditional marriage rights.
The Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke and his wife, Obioma, joined the family of the groom to seek Faith’s hands in marriage.
The negotiations for the bride price of Faith Sakwe, who is a lawyer, lasted till late in the night and the bride’s father, Goodluck Jonathan, after accepting their offer, asked the groom’s family to return the day after, and then he would release his daughter to them.
True to that, the family came back the next day for the grand celebration which was well attended by top politicians, captains of industries, and other well-meaning Nigerians, such as the Vice President, Namadi Sambo and his wife, Senate President, David Mark, Ministers, wives of state governors amongst other important guests.
