President Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians that the country will not disintegrate despite the incessant attacks of the Boko Haram sect.
President Jonathan gave the assurance while addressing residents of the Federal Capital Territory led by the Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who were at his residence after the Easter Sunday service to pay him the traditional Easter homage.
The President, who praised Nigerians for the unanimous way they assisted victims of the bomb blast at Nyanya Motor Park in Abuja, said that his administration is making concerted efforts to contain the insurgents, promising to bring an end to the ugly phenomenon.
The dreaded Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, has claimed responsibility for the Nyanya motor Park bomb blast. The blast claimed 75 lives and over 120 were injured.
He also used the opportunity to call on States and Local governments to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure that the level of unemployment is reduced to the barest minimum in order to avoid a recurrence of the job seekers’ stampede that claimed lives during the immigration recruitment exercise.
The President’s family had held a Sunday service at the Aso Rock Chapel before entertaining his guests at his residence.
Channels Television’s correspondent, Chukwuma Onuekwusi, reports that it was a happy day at the chapel, as government officials joined the President and some members of the first family to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Chaplain, Reverend Obioma Onwuzurumba, drew his sermon from 1st Corinthians 15 and said that “Christ remains the hope for those who are asleep and indeed the hope of the world”.
After the service at the chapel, attention shifted to the President’s residence where the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister paid homage to the President.
A number of Ministers, Senators and even Clergymen from all denominations and faith joined in paying homage.
Senator Mohammed made a presentation as a token of their love for the President, encouraging him to continue to pursue his transformation agenda.
Words of encouragement came from the President to those who may have lost hope following incessant attacks by the Boko Haram sect, calling for all hands to be on deck to curb unemployment.
The President prayed that God would “grant the nation the blessings and fulfilment which Easter brings now and always with the shared optimism that Nigerians shall overcome the same way Christ did”.
