The security meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and governors of the 36 states of Nigeria, initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday, has been postponed.
A source in the presidency said that the meeting, scheduled to review the security situation in Nigeria and proffer possible solutions, has been rescheduled for Thursday.
The crucial security meeting is coming days after the bomb blast at Nyanya Motor Park, in Abuja.
Seventy-five persons were killed while over 120 were injured in the attack by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
The president and the governors will also look at the ongoing national security measures and operations with a view to determining the best way forward.
Last Thursday, the president held a similar meeting with governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governors of other party except those of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Governors of the APC had accused the presidency of side-lining the party in a meeting it said should have been broad based since the issue of security was of national interest.
One of the PDP governors at the meeting, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, told reporters after the meeting that the invitation was not extended to the APC governors.
Governor Akpabio said that the PDP governors requested to meet with the president before a broad based meeting involving all governors would be held on April 23.
However, a member of the APC, and the spokesman for the Adamawa State government, Ahmed Sajoh, told Channels Television on Friday that an announcement was made by presidency’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, that there would be a meeting between the president and all the governors.
“All of a sudden, they sent a text message to us that the meeting has been put-off and that it has been postponed to a letter date,” he said.
Sajoh also said that the action of the PDP governors was not right at a time where all governors should be involved in the meeting to seek solutions to the grave insecurity in Nigeria.
