The Yobe State Police command has honoured six of its officials for foiling an attack by members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect on the Mopol 41 base in Damaturu, the state capital.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sanusi Rufai, who presented certificates of honour and commendation to the six men, revealed that those honoured include; an inspector, a sergeant and four corporals.

The men according to him foiled a planned attack on the Mopol 41 base Damaturu on February 16, 2014.

The CP said the command’s decision to honour these six men was aimed at encouraging them and others in the fight against criminality and terror attacks.

Apart from the certificate of honour and commendation, the CP disclosed that the six police men had been recommended for promotion to their next rank, subject to approval of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Mr Sanusi Rufai also praised journalists for their objectivity and courage in covering the insurgency and called on the Nigeria Union of Journalists to work towards fighting quacks who are highly unprofessional in their reportage.
