Ishmael-IgbaniAhead of Nigeria’s 2015 General Elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is embarking on a continuous voter registration exercise.

At a one-day forum with National Publicity Secretaries of political parties held in Abuja, the Acting Chairman of the commission, Dr Ishmael Igbani, said  that the exercise was in order to enable all eligible voters acquire a permanent voters card.

He added that all Nigerians who attained the age of 18 after the last exercise in 2011 and those who could not register for whatever reason will be captured in the new exercise.

The INEC official advised the political parties to urge their members  to take advantage of the registration exercise to be able to vote in the 2015 General Elections.

Dr Igbani said that the INEC would deploy at least 150,000 polling boots  in 2015 to cater for the increase in population.

“There have been increase in population and we have noticed that several communities have come up and they were not taking care of before now. Virtually in every state, there is this increase and the increase in the polling boot will cater for this increase,” he said.

The electoral body had said that it would introduce the electronic voting card, which will be used  in the 2015 election.

It is carrying out a test-run of the the card in Osun and Ekiti States governorship elections.
