Women have been charged to braze up to the challenges that politics may put their way, as regional meetings and nationwide consultations begin among women across the country.

The First Lady, Patience Jonathan, made the call in a message sent to women in the South West through the National Coordinator of Women for Change Initiative, Hajia Rabi Ibrahim, who was in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The purpose of her visit to the ancient city was to address women leaders across the South West and to look for ways of building capacity and empowering them.

Hajia Ibrahim, who was accompanied by Mrs Edwin Clark and other women leaders under the initiative, also visited the South West campaign and mobilisation office of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, where the meeting was held.

The South West Coordinator of Women for Change Initiative, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, explained that the initiative had been able to assist women, especially those in rural areas to start small businesses and work their way to self-reliance.

She added that in order to further make more positive impact, the meeting with the National Coordinator of the organisation would set out to first address women in Oyo State and then move to Ogun State for further consultations on ways of achieving more women participation in politics.

The meeting would also focus on how to foster greater harmony among the women and mobilize target specific capacity building within the South West and the country at large.
