Channels-kids-cup2The final match of the Channels National Kids Cup between Toyibat Nursary and Primary School Gbagada and Ebute Meta, both Lagos schools, holds on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos State.

The final game is holding, as children around Nigeria celebrate the Children’s Day.

The championship that kicked-off on Thursday started with 16 teams playing in the group stage.

A member of the organising committee, Austin Okon-Akpan, described the final match as a cracker and a match to watch.

He described Toyibat School Gbagada as the ‘comeback king’ of the competition, as they have come from behind several times to beat their opponent.

“Yesterday they were 2-0 down to Ibadan Municipal Government School (IMG) Oyo, but they came back to win that match.

“The other team from Ebute Meta defeated another strong team in the tournament, Teslim Elias, 2-1 to qualify for the final.

“These Lagos guys are ready to put aside territorial love and play football to determine who will become the ultimate champion. It is going to be a cracker,” he said.

A trait that the Channels National Kids Cup competition will leave the kids with is the necessity of team work and team spirit as they go about their daily living, Okon-Akpan said.

The third place match between IMG Oyo and Dr Teslim Elias will hold by 11:00am while Channels Television’s staff team and the Lagos Football Association will lock horns in a novelty match.

The game is sponsored by Channels Television in collaboration with the Lagos FA, Delta State government and Golden Penny, a pasta company.
