Gov YeroAs Muslims begin their one month obligatory Ramadan fasting, Governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Yero, has asked the Boko Haram insurgents to use the opportunity of prayers and self-denial associated with the period to end the killing of innocent Nigerians.

In a statement signed by his Director-General, Media and Publicity, Mallam Ahmed Maiyaki, Yero asked Muslims to use the period of the Ramadan fast to pray for God’s divine intervention to bring the present spate of insecurity in the country to an end and ensure that lasting peace and harmony returns to Kaduna State.

The Governor asked Muslims to take full advantage of the holy month to forge greater unity within them and adherents of other faiths in the country.

He also called on privileged Muslims to assist those in need, especially in this holy month and urged the people of Kaduna State to continue to coexist peacefully irrespective of their diversity, pointing out that, all of them were created by one God.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and Muslims worldwide observe this as a month of fasting. The annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

The month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon, according to numerous biographical accounts compiled in the hadiths.
