A Police corporal serving with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Yobe Command on Wednesday shot dead a hotel attendant in Damaturu, the state capital.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Nansak Chagwam (DSP) confirmed the incident to Channels Television.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that a police corporal who is serving with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, has killed a lady identified as a hotel attendant and investigation into the matter has since commenced and if found guilty, he will be discharged and charged to court for the offence committed”, Chagwam said.
According to him, the incident is being treated as an accidental discharge.
The spokesman disclosed that the victim did not die on the spot but was later confirmed dead at the Sani Abacha Hospital, Damaturu.
A hospital source told Channels Television that the lady was rushed to the hospital with a bullet wound on her head and was shortly confirmed dead.
