students-poly 2Academic activities remain paralyzed at Ondo State owned, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, as the authorities are yet to call the students back to campus since the school was shut after a protest staged by the students.

About three weeks ago, students of the Polytechnic protested against the decision to conduct a mid-semester unified test, which was later cancelled.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun told Channels Television that the protest was hatched by some people who are not students of the institution.

He added that the authorities have set up an investigative panel to look into the causes of the protest and ways of preventing such in the future.

The President of the Students’ Union Government of the Polytechnic, Akin Ayepada agreed that the protest was hijacked by hoodlums who are not students of the polytechnic.

He apologised on behalf of the students to the authorities and appealed to them to reopen the polytechnic, with a promise that such protest will not repeat itself.
