NSCDCMarchPastThe Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has started routine training and retraining of personnel to give the officers the opportunity to be acquainted with new strategies of combating cases of insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria.

In collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, over 60 personnel of the NSCDC in Cross River State Command, on Friday, concluded a training on weapon handling.

At the graduation ceremony of those trained at the 146 Battalion, Eburutu Barracks, Calabar, the Cross River State Capital, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Benito Eze, expressed confidence that after the rigorous training that lasted one month, the personnel were combat ready to safeguard the Nation’s infrastructure as well as combat terrorism.

He said the officials were trained on light arms handling to enhance professionalism and avoid unethical conduct by the officers, marksmanship principles, firing from different positions and how to assemble a rifle, especially blind folded, naming the parts and tackling insurgents during a terrorist attack.

Mr Eze averred that, the training of the officials by officers of the Nigerian Army was not a way of expressing superiority over other security agencies, but encapsulates the fact that, the Nigerian Army was more proficient when it comes to issues of handling weapons.

“No security agency acting alone can achieve the objective of a secured Nigeria. The only way this objective can be achieved is through cooperation, synergy of efforts and most importantly, leveraging on the strength of one another,” Mr Eze pointed out.

He tasked the officials on effective utilisation of the knowledge acquired in the course of their duty, emphasising that as grassroots security agents, they are to desist from acts capable of diminishing their rating by the general public.

The officials were also advised to avoid the accidental discharge syndrome, imbibe discipline, loyalty and dedication to the civil public and the government of Nigeria.

He however disclosed that over 300 personnel of the Corps had been previously trained at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kotangora, Niger State.
