food_waresFood prices have increased in some part of Nigeria, as Muslims prepare for the celebration of the Eid-el-Fitri, a usual festive trend that leaves many clamouring for proper price control.

In Abuja, the nation’s capital, residents have witnessed slight increase in prices of goods and in cost of transportation from one state to another.

Traders in the city attributed the increase in prices of goods to the cost of conveying household wares from one part of the country to the other.

However, in the mode of celebration, the city has seen a beehive of activities, with the Utako Ultra-Modern market in Abuja witnessing increased number of persons, as residents engaged in last minutes shopping to mark the end of Ramadan.

Unlike previous festivities, this year’s Eid-el-Fitri celebration witnessed a rise in the prices of food items.

Some residents lament the increase while others disagreed, insisting that the prices of food items and other household goods have remained the same.

Some commuters also expressed frustration with the increase in the cost of travelling from one state to another, a development they attributed to the celebration.

As Nigerian Muslims join Muslim faithful around the world to celebrate Eid-el-Fitri, it is hoped that traders across the country will reduce their prices after the Ramadan when demands for food items and other commodities are expected to increase.

The development, however, stressed the need for the Nigerian government to establishing proper regulatory system that would ensure that Nigerians are not made to pay more during festivities.
