elta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has decried lack of maintenance culture among civil servants in Nigeria.
During an unscheduled inspection tour of ultra-modern equipment and facilities at Nana College, Warri, one of the recently constructed and equipped colleges in the state Governor Uduaghan lamented the unkempt state of the recently installed facilities in the school.
He stressed that his administration would not condone situation where government property was taken for granted.
The Governor, who inspected the school Laboratories, library and classrooms, assured the state indigenes that he had embarked on a continuous monitoring of government property to prevent misuse.
Governor Uduaghan later participated in a Social Studies lecture for Junior Secondary students where he rendered advice on career choice.
In an interview, the governor observed that, obviously, the teachers were yet to understand how to manage the ultra-modern equipment in the recently constructed and equipped colleges, warning the teachers that there will be constant monitoring of how such equipment are used to ensure that they stand the test of time and also used for the purpose they were acquired.
The Governor also warned pregnant women and nursing mothers against payment for medical services, since the cost of their Medicare was covered by the State Government’s Free Maternal and under-five Healthcare programmes.
He gave the warning while giving antenatal talk to pregnant women at the Mother and Child Centre of the Central Hospital, Warri.
While urging the women to ensure that their children got routine immunisation, he advised them on effective family planning.
