Goodluck JonathanThe Federal Government on Thursday launched a fundraising for victims of terror in the country.

The quest to raise funds to fight the rising spate of terrorism in the country kicked off on a bright note with the Federal Government raising over 50 billion naira, on Thursday night.

President Goodluck Jonathan, who personally served as the Master of Ceremony at the fundraising ceremony for the Terror Victims Support Fund, led the donors by donating 10billion naira on behalf of the Federal Government.

The President also asked all Nigerians to give their widows mite to the terror victims.

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan said that the Victims Support Fund would go a long way in providing succour to the victims.

Sharing the story of a “kind hearted Nigerian”, Dr Uchenna Nnana Kalu, whom he “never knew” who sent in a bank draft of 5,000 naira to his office from Abia State as his contribution to the Victims Support Fund.

“Very clearly, Nigerians are very good people”, he said.

The President said that the gesture touched his heart and noted that “in seeking to provide succour to the victims of terror attacks, no amount is too small. The 5,000 Naira Kalu gave can clothe a whole family or pay for their food for some days. We should, therefore, not think that our contributions have to be extremely large before they can be useful.”

The President urged every Nigerian to allow this sorrowful period to bring out the best in them and not leave the victims to bear the brunt of terror alone.
