NFF logoThe Nigeria Football Federation has disassociated themselves from the purported emergency congress held by state FA Chairmen who reportedly reversed the impeachment of former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari.

As the controversy over the impeachment of Maigari rages on, some members of the congress of the federation had announced the reversal of the impeachment on the ground that the action of the NFF executive committee did not follow due process.

Speaking on behalf of the members, Chairman Of Abia State Football Association, Mr Ephraim Chukwuemeka, said that the purported dismissal of Maigari was in clear violation of articles 35 [3] and 37 of the NFF statutes.

Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Seyi Akinwumi, who read the resolution of the congressmen, reportedly signed by 26 FA chairmen, condemned the impeachment of Maigari, saying persons seeking to effect a change in the leadership of the federation should wait for the next elective congress.

The NFF, however, said that the emergency congress which was to hold on Thursday has been postponed and alerted Nigerians to a document being circulated by a group of persons who claimed that an emergency congress of the NFF was held.

NFF Acting President, Mike Umeh, urged all Nigerians to ignore the so–called decisions contained in the document, insisting that a properly constituted NFF Congress would be convoked at a date to be made known to the public.

The NFF Executive Committee rose from its meeting of Wednesday, July 30 to say that the emergency congress had been postponed, and duly apologized to members of the congress, while stating that the congress would hold at a later date.

“There was no congress at all, and we urge Nigerians to ignore the so–called decisions contained in the document. A properly constituted NFF Congress would be convoked at a date to be made known to the public soon,” Mike Umeh said in Abuja.

He added: “Whoever is instigating these persons does not love Nigeria and should be advised to stop.”
